The final program is available for the annual meeting of the American Fisheries Society, at http://afs2011.org/program/. Up to 4,000 fisheries professionals from across the globe will attend the meeting at the Washington State Convention Center in downtown Seattle. Members of the public and non-fisheries professionals interested in fisheries science and management, marine and freshwater habitat protection, or fisheries-related recreation are welcome to attend. Interviews with two speakers at the conference, University of Washington professors Ray Hilborn and Nate Mantua, are available through links on the conference home page, http://afs2011.org/ Hilborn will speak in an all-day September 7 symposium on the extent of global overfishing and the role of fish in the world’s food supply. Mantua will speak in a symposium that same afternoon on the effects of global climate change on aquatic resources. Many other speakers will be presenting on topics of widespread interest, such as lessons learned from the Deepwater Horizon and Exxon Valdez oil spills, ocean acidification, and the ecological impacts of renewable energy.
